The Need
Orphans in Africa struggle to find food, shelter, clothing, and people who care. They live lives of despair, dread, desperation, and hopelessness. During a visit to East Africa, World Christian Outreach (WCO) leader Stan Herpick saw this desperation in the eyes of a young boy selling water on the streets. He decided something had to be done.
What You Can Do
You can be part of the story. Funding is always needed to expand the school and reach more orphans. $120 per month will fully fund an orphan’s boarding and education. Smaller and larger amounts are also most welcomed. You might contribute to a special project such as the purchase of a tractor for farming, construction of a chicken house, or another one-time project to aid in our sustainability efforts.

In 2016, a boarding school for orphans in remote Tanzania was only an idea. With no funding; only faith. Discussions with local villagers led to the gift of 50 acres of land for the cause by the village. Funding from unexpected sources slowly followed. A water well was drilled on the arid property which miraculously produced the volumes of water needed for the school. Construction of dorms, classrooms, a meeting hall, a kitchen, bathrooms and more commenced and today the New Dawn boarding school for orphans is operating in Ishinde Village, Tanzania.

New Dawn welcomed class number 4 this year. It is operated by indigenous leaders and staffed with indigenous people. At a cost of $120 per student per month, New Dawn provides the basics of food, shelter, clothing, and security. But more importantly, New Dawn provides a loving Christ-centered environment, a high quality secondary education and, most of all, hope to 150 orphans. New Dawn Tanzania will soon graduate its first class. Below is an interview from one of the first students at New Dawn explaining what it means to him. Scroll Down to Meet Gabriel:

Filled with the hope of Christ, equipped with a quality education, and supported by a loving community, we have high expectations for the good things to follow for these kids and their communities as they graduate. Below you can see them sing “Light of the World,” expressing the expectation that God’s glory and hope will shine through them.

Meet Gabriel, a member of the first class at New Dawn Tanzania
|
Gabriel is from the Masai tribe who are famous for herding cattle and sheep across the plains of East Africa. Gabriel’s primary language is Swahili though he has also learned English. His father was murdered when he was 4 and his mother died of and illness when he was 9. He then lived with his sister and lacked many basic needs. His sister helped lead him to the Lord when he was 11 when he was born again. He appreciates New Dawn for providing shelter, clothes, and a balanced diet, things that he did not always have after his mother died. He also appreciates his teachers for loving him and helping him learn.
Gabriel loves farming and raising animals. He also loves playing soccer and claims he is a good striker. His favorite subjects include physics, math, and biology. He plans to become a Doctor and help those who cannot afford health care. |
