In August, Board of Directors Member, Mark Luce, traveled to New Dawn Tanzania. The students prepared and presented a speech for his arrival. Here are a few excerpts from that ceremony. We thank God that up to now He has helped us and we have seen many changes spiritually. We have been able to understand and expand our spiritual knowledge. We also thank God for the many ministries of serving Him to include singing, preaching, and praying. In all this, we are well accomplished by the efforts from our teachers, who are directing us and giving us support whenever needed. Sports and games are part of our lives. Many students are talented in various areas and our school has been participating in the district, regional and national competitions for secondary schools in Tanzania. In singing our choir of 25 students won first place in the district and was selected to on to the regional level competition. Additionally, in athletics we had two students who were selected in Basketball and Volleyball to represent the district in the regional level competitions. Our choir won first place in the region! Nine members were chosen to join the regional choir to represent the region in the national competition. Two students, also from our school, Quera Fredy and Jackline Shemdalwa won and became the best musicians in the region so they moved on to the national competition. In the nationals our student musicians became number 8 in the nation. Together with these achievements we still face some challenges at our school. One is the shortage of learning materials. Although the performance of the school is good, we don’t have enough books for teachers and students, a library, a laboratory or computer rooms. We would like to thank our school and sponsors for the contributions that you have shown to us, the school has been a big part of our life. Through it we get our basic needs and care from our teachers that have been like parents to us. We get health treatment, food, shelter and clothes from the help of the school. New Dawn is playing a great role in making sure that we achieve our goals and build our futures. It was given to all form two and form four students, from the whole region of Kilimanjaro. In spite of being a new school we thank God that the performance of our school was good; we did great both regionally and district wide. For the form two class, it was our first time doing the examination, and our school ranked 33 out of 310 schools in the region, and 8 out of 64 schools in the district. Our form 4 class ranked 24 out of 334 in Kilimanjaro region, and 6 out of 57 in the district. This year’s results show that there is improvement, and we believe that next year we will do even better. As the Bible says in Luke 1:37: “For with God nothing shall be impossible”.
